Hi there! Welcome to the site - thanks for visiting & for all support & donations. What a tremendous trip to The Great Wall. Great group too. If there's anything you'd like to know, please get in touch. Have a really great day!
Fundraising - Autumn 2007 to Summer 2008 - extended due to great encouragement & support, thank you :)
Ever since losing dear sister Amanda to cancer, I have wanted to do some sort of fundraising for a cancer research organisation.
I've considered trying to organise a few events, had a fair few different ideas, but after lots of evaluation, I figured this event would be the "best" fundraiser I could be part of.
Over the years, I have become impressed by the work of the ACRF. In May this year, I decided to 'bite the bullet' & 'signed up' to join a group heading out from Australia to participate in an event happening almost on my doorstep - a 'hop, skip & a jump' from Hong Kong.
So, for the past 3 months, I've been busy trying to figure out best fundraising strategy (this partly explains absence from certain areas of the RHKYC!).
Since husband Jamie wasn't terribly keen for me to have my hair shaved off by the highest bidder, I figured I would focus more on more "cause-related" stuff!
I am therefore concentrating all fundraising efforts on the trek itself & subsequent "Post-trek Roadshow". At every opportunity, I will try to share a little about the work of the ACRF, more if people make the request!
MY KEY INTENTIONS
1. To raise fairly significant sums of money for this outstanding cancer research organisation.
2. To help raise awareness levels about: (a) the great work being done by the ACRF, and (b) the prevalence of cancer so that we can help early detection & prevention.
3. To use a wonder in the history of architecture, the Great Wall of China, as a vehicle for fundraising (1) by walking part of the wall, and (2) further fundraising via "Roadshow" sharing of photographs & story. The plan is for that to be FUN!
4. To complete the trek (a fairly hefty physical challenge!) in memory of Amanda Jane who passed away in May 2003. Whilst doing that, enjoy being with like-minded people (hopefully therapeutic!), get fitter & just live each day to its fullest.
How lucky am I to have this great opportunity. Very!
